28 December 2012 - Adrian gives psychopharmacology lectures in Netherlands

Adrian Newman-Tancredi PhD gave lectures on the pharmacology of antipsychotics to psychiatrists at 3 different locations in the Netherlands on 5th and 6th November 2012. The lecture tour was sponsored by Bristol-Myers Squibb and focused on the mechanism of action of recent antipsychotics. In particular, discussion centred on the distinctive profile of aripiprazole (Abilify®) which possesses partial agonist properties at dopamine D2 and serotonin 5-HT1A receptors.

In addition, Adrian gave a lecture on 8th November 2012 to graduate students and teaching staff at Groningen University, Netherlands, in the Department of Behavioural Physiology of the Centre for Behaviour and Neurosciences. The lecture focused on recent advances in the discovery of novel drugs acting as "biased agonists" at serotonin 5-HT1A receptors - one of Adrian's ares of speciality. His contact at Groningen University is Prof. Sietse de Boer, who has extensive experience of 5-HT1A receptor pharmacology.
